Responsibility:

– Stay abreast of political, social, economic and cultural developments that have an impact on the protection environment.

 

– Consistently apply International and National Law and applicable UN/UNHCR and IASC policy, standards and codes of conduct, with particular focus on the relevant child protection standards and principles.  

 

– Assist in providing comments on existing and draft policies and SOPs related to persons of concern. Contribute to the Office’s child protection planning as part of the larger protection strategy.

 

– Provide advice on protection issues to persons of concern and liaise with other technical units, competent authorities and partners on their behalf. 

 

– Monitor Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all protection/solutions activities.

 

– Manage individual protection cases including those on SGBV and child protection. Conduct best interest assessments and contribute to best interest determination procedures. Monitor, and intervene in other protection incidents.

 

– Assist in identifying durable solutions for unaccompanied and separated children in NES, through mapping options related to voluntary repatriation, local integration and where appropriate, resettlement.

 

– Contribute to the design, implementation and evaluation of protection related AGD based programming with implementing and operational partners. 

 

– Provide thematic and on-the-job training for partners on key issues related to child protection, to ensure ongoing capacity development.

 

– Participate in relevant coordination mechanisms and contribute to joint initiatives, including to capacitate local authorities and NGOS.

 

– Submit weekly reports to update about partner activities and key achievements in the respective AoR.

 

 

Authority 

 

– Prioritize persons of concern for interview, counselling and propose protection support for individual cases. Directly engage with other technical units and humanitarian actors on the ground to achieve protection outcomes.

 

– Directly engage with partner staff to ensure compliance with global protection policies, standard operating procedures and principles of professional conduct.

 

 

Qualification Required:

 

Education: 

 

Completion of secondary school. Additional certificate/training in International Law, Political Science or related field is required.

 

Experience: -For G6 – 3 years relevant experience with High School Diploma; or 2 years relevant work experience with Bachelor or equivalent or higher.

– UN work experience in relevant field will be an asset.

 

Languages: 

Excellent knowledge of English and working knowledge of another UN language.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

 

Good computer skills.

Completed Protection Learning Programme.

Completion of UNHCR’s CP Learning Programme will be considered an asset.
