Paper Airplanes is a nonprofit organization registered in the USA that matches conflict-affected individuals with personal tutors for an 18-week session conducted via Skype and other video conferencing platforms. currently have two programs, formed in response to student demand: the English Program and the Women in Tech Program.
The English Program runs two sub-programs: 1 on 1 and Speaking Classes. You will be matched with a youth (+13) or a young adult or a group of young adults (18+) affected by conflict, assisting them using our guided curriculum. No prior tutoring experience or Arabic language skills are required, although both are appreciated. We provide all curricula and tutors are requested to contribute to lesson planning.

Dates & Commitment:
The Spring semester will run from January 23 – May 28, 2023. All tutors are requested to commit 2 hours per week for the full semester, which includes meeting with the student for 1.5 hours, as well as 15 minutes each of lesson planning and homework review.
Application Status Update:
You will receive a conditional accept or reject within two weeks of submitting your application. Due to high email volume, please note we cannot respond to general application status inquiries. We can respond to applicants who submit a request to change their availability or to withdraw their application, or who have another special circumstance.
Required Tutor Training for All Conditionally Accepted Applicants:
In their conditional acceptance email, these applicants will receive a link to our tutor training, which takes approximately 2 hours, and must be completed to be fully accepted into the program. The training can be done at your own pace in as many sessions are you need. The training covers Paper Airplanes policies, information about the context in which we work, our curricula, and the tools tutors use for their volunteering.
Attendance Policy:
Missing 3 unexcused classes/weeks or make-up classes/weeks without rescheduling results in removal from the program.
Donations:
To sustain operational processes and increase the number of student uptake, tutors are requested to donate $25 to Paper Airplanes. These donations will support the number of scholarships we offer to students and help them to take standardized English tests to further their education and employment opportunities.
