The Women-In-Tech volunteering application

Paper Airplanes is a nonprofit organization registered in the USA that matches conflict-affected individuals with personal tutors for an about 16-weeks classes conducted via video conferencing platforms like Google meet or Zoom. We have two programs, all formed in response to student demand: English and Women in Tech.

Women in Tech (WiT) will be offering the following topics for the Spring 2023 semester:  
– Python: two levels are offered:

Python 1‘s curriculum focuses on the basics of Python programming which includes various data types, data structures, and how to manipulate data. 

Python 2 includes Object Oriented Programming, Numpy, Pandas, Statistics, Data Visualization and Data Cleaning, Machine Learning, Image Processing and Regex/Natural Language Processing

– Web Development: two levels are offered,

Web development 1 will focus on the Frontend side and explain website structures and basic JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.

Web development 2 will include the Backend side and basic databases with SQL, Java script intermediate level and web frameworks such as React and Angular.

– Business Analytics :two levels

Business Analytics 1 includes Introduction to Business analytics, Statistics overview, Visualizing data, Linear Regression, Multiple Regression, Methods of visualizing data.

Business Analytics 2 We will cover using R studio: Data Structure, The Basic Functions, Statistical Work, Important Workspace Functions, Dplyr Functions, Tidy Data, Relational Data, Visualizing Models, Linear regression and Logistic regression.

Volunteers can choose between the following roles:

1. Instructor:
As a WiT instructor, you would be responsible for

– teaching the course alongside the other instructors.

– assigning students homework and follow up on them.

– providing feedback on the curriculum.

– attending bi-weekly meetings with the staff members. 

This is a volunteer position with an expected time commitment of 4-6 hours per week (typically up to 2 hours of planning and up to 2 hours of instructing).

2. Mentor:
As a WiT mentor, you would be responsible for

 – meeting with your mentee(s) on a weekly basis over any platform you prefer.

–  helping them to complete homework assignments and their final project/ portfolio by organizing office hours or follow up sessions.

– communicate with the instructor to follow up with the classes materials.

This is a volunteer position with an expected time commitment of 3 hours each week if necessary (varying according to the needs of individual students).

– Photoshop.
– E-commerce.
– Digital marketing.

– Business analytics: SPSS.

– WordPress.

Required Volunteer Training for All Conditionally Accepted Applicants:

For those who are shortlisted, you will be invited to an interview 
then, for those who receive their conditional acceptance email, these applicants will receive a link to our volunteer training, and must be completed by 29 January in order to be fully accepted into the program.

The training can be done at your own pace in as many sessions are you need. Returning volunteers will only need to review the updated policies and sign mandatory consent forms.
