Education For Humanity

Education for humanity is an initiative of Arizona State University (ASU) which offers self-paced online courses that focus on preparation for online learning, English language acquisition, degree pathways and workforce skills—completely free of charge. The courses are grouped by programs that cover specific modules and relative content, corresponding to a range of English proficiency levels.

General English: Learn to communicate more comfortably in basic English. This series of modules will help you learn to talk about daily life, express your opinion, speak in the correct tense (past, present, future), write basic sentences, and more. It includes four courses ranging from A2 to B1 CEFR level courses. After completing this series of courses, you will be prepared to take more advanced courses in English.

Be an Online Successful Learner: Online learning presents unique challenges and opportunities. This series of modules will help learners build the knowledge and confidence needed to begin a successful journey as an online learner; ultimately, becoming familiar with how to navigate an online learning environment. It includes four B1 CEFR level courses.Topics include time management, study skills, information literacy, and academic integrity.

Business English: Learn to communicate in English about topics such as management, finance and marketing. This series of modules will help learners acquire the necessary language structures to run a meeting, achieve sales, and negotiate other business transactions. Additionally, learners will learn to write proposals, executive summaries, and marketing materials. It includes three B2 CEFR level courses.

Academic English: Improve language skills for an academic setting or career. This series will help learners develop their critical thinking skills, conduct research, and learn organizational patterns for academic writing. It includes four courses ranging from B2 to C1 CEFR level courses. Completing this program will enable learners to communicate the results of their research and know how to make and defend arguments.

Self-paced:
This program is a series of self paced courses and levels. By self paced, we mean that there is no teacher who will be following up with the students, there are no live classes or group activities. The student’s only reference for support are Anera’s educational focal points. Those applying to this program must be committed to enhancing their English language skills and willing to dedicate their time and effort into completing the program.

Selection Criteria:

Age restrictions: 18-30
Nationality: Open to all nationalities
English Language skills: Intermediate (Basic knowledge of English Language)
Location: Must be based in Lebanon
Students should have access to an electronic device and internet connection

Upon completion of each learning series, students earn badges and certificates which can serve as proof of ability/completion.

Ultimately, the project/initiative aims to increase the educational opportunities available to communities affected by displacement and economic hardship, as well as expand and improve the skills and capacities of staff across a range of organizations.
