The Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) is pleased to invite you to a presentation of findings and discussion of the research study titled “Understanding Adaptive Mechanisms Used in Seeking Hospital Care among Refugees, Stateless and Host Communities in Lebanon”, on Monday, July 8, 2019 at 10:00 am, at IFI Conference Room (4th floor).
The research project aimed to discern the formal and informal mechanisms utilized by Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, stateless communities, and the economically vulnerable Lebanese host communities to obtain access to hospital care by using the journey mapping method. The findings highlight the importance of relying on family and community networks to fill gaps left through channels in formal networks. By contextualizing barriers encountered along the hospitalization journey and exploring refugees’ coping strategies, the study also identifies a number of complicating factors, which can influence patients’ access, experiences, and outcomes within the healthcare system. During the event, researchers will present the study findings and recommendations, followed by a discussion with attendees on the proposed policy and practice recommendations for the study.
