Shelter and Infrastructure Officer


Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified individual to fill-in the vacancy of Shelter and Infrastructure Officer to work in Damascus for Deir Ezzour projects under employment contract

DRC Syria

DRC has been actively operating in Syria since 2008 mainly supporting refugees. In June 2012, DRC was authorized by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to expand its humanitarian efforts and provide assistance to IDPs and the vulnerable resident population countrywide. Since then, DRC activities have been focused on NFI distributions, Shelter, WASH, Protection, Education, Livelihoods and Mine Risk Education in six Governorates (Damascus, Rural Damascus, Dara'a, Aleppo, Hama, and Homs). While Protection/community service activities are provided to beneficiaries throughout our six Community Centers.

About the job


The Shelter & Infrastructure officer will be responsible for field visits mainly in the governorate depending on the security situation, will play a major role in assessing schools, collective shelters, and unfinished buildings to be rehabilitated, WASH infrastructure.

This position is based in Damascus with monthly visit to Deir Ezzor depending on the security situation



Duties and Responsibilities:


•             Assessing schools, collective shelters, unfinished buildings, and WASH infrastructure in Deir Ezzor.

•             Supervise as requested the work of DRC field engineers in Deir Ezzor

•             Preparing and revising Bill of Quantities;

•             Monitoring construction works, verifying work status for processing payments.

•             Writing report about construction work status.

•             Participating in coordination meeting on governorate level if requested.

•             Any other task as requested by the direct manager


About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have



  • Bachelor degree in Engineering.
  • Three to five years working experience in monitoring construction works, preparing Bill of quantities, verifying construction material qualities.
  • Good command of the English language.   



  • Bachelor degree in Civil or Architectural engineering

We offer

Contract Length:  up to six months contract, renewable dependent on both funding and performance.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National Staff.
