GLOBAL OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION

The Communication & Advocacy Manager will be the main contact focal point for all internal and external communications related to the Jafra Foundation.

WORK RELATIONSHIPS

Line manager: Executive Director

Supervise: Social Media Officer, Communication Officer, Media & Design officer

In direct cooperation with: Jafra Senior Management Team (Program Coordinator, Support Services Coordinator, Grants Coordinator)

RESPONSIBILITIES & OBJECTIVES

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Communication & Advocacy Manager’s main responsibilities are:

Responsibility 1: Internal Communication

  • Draft and release internal communication emails and documents as requested
  • Develop a systematic approach and SOPs for internal communication
  • Translate communications where necessary
  • Collect, inspect and store photographs and potential promotional material and medias from the field

  • Develop and update relevant policies shared with office and field staff
  • Maintain positive relationships with staff in the field and guide on communications protocol and guidelines

Responsibility 2: External Communication

  • Focal point for all the Jafra Foundation communications for partners, donors and all external stakeholders
  • Develop a systematic approach for external communication
  • Update and maintain a contact list of external stakeholders
  • Draft Articles about the foundation’s work and situation of Palestinian camps and gatherings; liaise with national and international press to publish them
  • Manage all social media accounts and boost Jafra’s visibility; seek new and innovative approach to communication channels
  • Promote the Jafra Foundation mission in all external communications and maintain neutral on current affairs
  • Develop and foster positive relationships with media outlets and individual journalists

Responsibility 3: Public Relations

  • Actively seek networking opportunities to expand Jafra’s programs/funds and visibility
  • Keep abreast of related events
  • Develop and foster positive relationship with potential and current donors, partners and relevant stakeholders
  • Follow up on new contacts made during networking and seek to develop relationships

Responsibility 4: Advocacy

  • Develop Jafra’s Advocacy strategy in line with its mission and values
  • Liaise with the humanitarian community and relevant stakeholders for joint advocacy opportunities
  • Responsible for creating advocacy messages and campaigns

Others: Reporting and Information Collation

  • Draft and disseminate the monthly newsletter for relevant stakeholders
  • Collate, report upon and present monthly/annual information about programming
  • Collate success stories from the field
  • Develop promotional material such as organizational profile relevant to Jafra Foundation
  • Constantly revise and develop the communication strategy

Note that this job description must remain flexible, to respond to additional tasks or changes as identified by the line manager. Reasonable specific work duties may be requested in situations that may not fit into the above job description, but will help promote the overall program goals and aims of Jafra Foundation.

QUALIFICATION/ REQUIREMENTS

Profile required:

  • At least Bachelor’s degree; preferably in media, journalism, public relations or any other related field
  • At least 2 year of practical experience in communication & advocacy with an NGO, preferably in the Syrian context;
  • At least 2 year in a role requiring spoken and written communication

Professional and Personal skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Well-developed knowledge of situational context
  • Ability to create and maintain positive relationships
  • Ability to draft and edit information professionally
  • Confidence in multi-tasking
  • Good level of proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media tools
  • Professionally presented
  • Strategically driven
  • High level of initiative and ability to work independently
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant media reports/social media trends

JOB CONDITIONS

  • Remuneration: $1900 - $2300 (depending on experience)
  • Starting date: late November 2018
